Chapter 30: (Montgomery GI-Bill® Active Duty)
The MGIB program provides up to 36 months of education benefits. This benefit must be used for a degree or certificate program and training. To be eligible you must have an Honorable Title and a high school diploma or GED and in some cases 12 credit hours from a Post-Secondary Institution. Individuals with active duty service after 09/10/2001 who served for an aggregate 90 days or who served for a period of 30 days and received a disability discharge are eligible. Eligibility includes being full-time in the armed forces. Active duty for training is not considered a classification.

Chapter 31: Career Preparation and Employment Program for Veterans
It is a service program for veterans connected with common military service of 10% or more of compensation for a physical or mental condition. This program is intended to prepare the veteran to obtain employment suitable to his or her limitations, assist the veteran to maintain such employment, assist the veteran to be fully productive and independent. Must have an honorable discharge from military service and a service-connected condition that limits his or her employability is established for eligibility. Vocational Rehabilitation offers services such as: tuition, books, materials, tutoring, assessment of skills, abilities and interests of the veteran, educational counseling, supervision, medical referrals (JOB LAB) and employment services among others. The student must see his or her Vocational Rehabilitation counselor for authorization of tuition and benefits.

VA Form 28-1905 - Application for a benefit for the first time, transfer from another institution or change of concentration. The student must contact the agency directly to submit the application and have it evaluated by the counselor assigned by the agency.
Chapter 33: Post 911 GI-Bill® active duty military service after September 11, 2001
This chapter provides financial support for education and housing to individuals who meet at least one of the following requirements.
- Have served at least 90 days on active duty (at one time or with breaks in service) on or after September 11, 2001, or
- Received a Purple Heart on or after September 11, 2001, and was honorably discharged after any amount of service; or
- Served for at least 30 continuous days (all at one time, without a break in service) on or after September 11, 2001, and was honorably discharged with a service-connected disability, or
- is a spouse or dependent using benefits transferred by a veteran or eligible service member.
- Offers up to 36 months of benefits.
- The student must confirm attendance via text message or email. Failure to confirm attendance for 2 consecutive months will result in a stop of monthly housing payments.
Note: If you are a member of the Reserves who lost education benefits when the Reserve Education Assistance Program (REAP) ended in November 2015, you may qualify for restored benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

Chapter 1606: Reserve - Select Guard (MGIB-SR)
The Montgomery GI-Bill® Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) program offers up to 36 months of education and training benefits. If you are a member of the Army Reserve, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard, Army National Guard or Air National Guard, you may be eligible for this benefit.

Tuition Assistance (TA)
Provides financial assistance to support reserve soldiers in achieving their career goals. To apply for service, the soldier has 90 days prior to the start of the academic semester to apply for the benefit and up to 14 days after the semester begins. The soldier only has the opportunity to make one degree. If he/she already has a degree, even if he/she has NOT used the TA benefit, he/she will NOT be approved.

Dependents:
Chapter 35: Dependent Educational Assistance (Wife and/or Dependents)
A student who is the child or spouse of a veteran who died or is permanently and totally disabled as a result of a disability related to active duty in the Armed Forces is eligible. Dependents or survivors may receive benefits in the event the veteran is 100% compensated for a service-connected illness or injury, lost in action or captured in the line of duty.
Offers up to 45 months of educational benefits.

The benefit depends on the date of eligibility varies depending on the total number of months approved:
Maximum Months
45 months if the first use of the benefit was before August 1, 2018.
36 months if the first use of the benefit was after August 1, 2018.
Fry Scholarship (Costs paid to the institution)
You may be eligible for Fry Grant benefits if you are the child or surviving spouse of a member of the Armed Forces who died in the line of duty while on active duty on or after September 11, 2001, or a member of the Armed Forces who died in the line of duty while not on active duty on or after September 11, 2001, or a member of the Selected Reserve who died from a service-connected disability on or after September 11, 2001. Chapter 33: Post 911 Active Veterans after 11/Sept/2001 Transfer of Benefits for Dependents
This chapter provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of service on or after 9/11 or to individuals inactive for a service-connected illness after 30 days. You may transfer benefits to one or more children or to the military spouse. The family member must be enrolled in the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS) and eligible for benefits.

Act 203 Puerto Rican Veteran's Bill of Rights of the 21st Century:
Act 203 grants a 50% tuition discount to children of veterans in State Institutions, which entitles them to free tuition through the Veteran's Economic Assistance Program of the Puerto Rico Department of Education. Veteran students are eligible if they have NOT completed the courses leading to the academic degree they started at the University, having exhausted all the educational benefits provided by the Veterans Administration.
Act No. 109 of 2003:
An Act regulating the contractual relations between military students of post-secondary education in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and institutions of higher education.
National Guard Institutional Trust Fund (FIGNA)
This is a benefit for an active member of the Puerto Rico National Guard and their dependents, as long as they are active students at the undergraduate level. Educational expenses include college degrees at accredited post-secondary educational institutions.
