The Department of Education (DEUS) has established new regulations to strengthen state authorization and professional licensure requirements (State Authorization and Professional Licensure Requirements-34 C.F.R. § 668.43). This regulation requires educational institutions to identify the student's location and determine whether the program of study will allow the prospective graduate to meet the requirements for professional licensure or certification in the state/territory and practice the profession where they are located.
Inter American University of Puerto Rico (IAUPR) offers academic programs leading to professional licensure in Puerto Rico. The curriculum of these academic programs has been designed to meet the educational part of the licensure/certification requirements and preparing students to apply for licensure exams in Puerto Rico. All these programs, offered in person in Puerto Rico, meet the requirements of state-level professional boards and regulatory agencies.
Each state/territory in the United States may require additional specific requirements to obtain a professional license or certification. The additional specific requirements for obtaining a professional license or certification vary by state/territory. Students are responsible for researching the specific requirements of the state/territory in which they are located or plan to work after graduation. If a student is located in a state/territory where they cannot practice their profession, federal regulations restrict the institution from admitting and awarding financial aid (Title IV – Grants or Student Loans) to students in these academic programs. It is important to note that moving while enrolled in a program may affect compliance with the licensing requirements of the new state/territory. The UIPR does not guarantee that a student will obtain a professional license/certification or employment in the states/territories of the United States.
