Admissions Requirements

A bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent, from an accredited university and with the required minimum GPA as certified by the Vice President of Academic Affairs of Inter American University.

A minimum test score on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and the “Prueba de Admision para Estudios Graduados” (PAEG)* as established by the Admissions Committee

A proof of subscription to LSDAS (Law School Data Assembly Service) as indicated in the LSAT test application manual. The LSAT is offered in Puerto Rico and in different locations of the continental US.

*The PAEG is also offered in Princeton, New Jersey through the Educational Testing Service for those unable to attend the test sessions in Puerto Rico.

*Applicants must take the LSAT no later than February and the PAEG no later than March of the year they plan to start their studies.

A mastery of Spanish and proficiency in English is required.

An official transcript of college courses from all universities attended to complete the bachelor’s degree. Graduating seniors may submit an official partial transcript.

Preliminary admissions are conditioned to the fulfillment of this requirement.

Applicants cannot be on disciplinary or academic probation from any institution.

Applicants who have been withdrawn due to academic deficiency or have been expelled from any law, graduate, or professional school for disciplinary violations will not qualify.

A certificate from the applicant’s local Police Department of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico indicating that he/she has no criminal record. (“Certificado negativo de antecedentes penales”)

Candidates must submit an application to the Office of Admissions of the School of Law no later than March 31 of the year they would begin their studies. Applications must include a certified check or money order for a non-refundable admission fee of $63.00. Payments can also be made in cash when the application is submitted in person. A 2 X 2 photograph is optional.

At least 3 labels with the applicant’s name and address must be included I n the admissions application.

Applicants under 21 years of age must submit an Immunization Certificate and a Health Certificate.

Once a student is accepted, he/she must take a summer-long preparatory course designed to facilitate the student’s integration and adaptation to the study of judiciary science.

Students from foreign countries must submit official documents required by the Dept. of Justice and the Office of Immigration and Naturalization Service of the US. authorizing their studies in Puerto Rico.

The Admissions Committee establishes annual admissions criteria for each first year class. In the academic year 1997-98 the average test scores of admitted students in the PAEG was 614 and 141 in the LSAT. The average bachelor’s degree GPA was 3.13.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS

Applications to the Faculty of Law will be accepted for the fall semester beginning in August.

Candidate selection will be based upon the information submitted with the application, including test scores, GPA, etc. Inter American University of Puerto Rico does not discriminate against any person based on race, color, age, sex, religion, nationality, civil status, physical appearance, political affiliation or physical impairment.

The Office of Admissions has designed a notification system (by telephone or mail) to inform applicants of their admission status, but it is the responsibility of each student to update and submit all required documents for evaluation by the Admissions Committee. The deadline for submitting documentation is March 31. The majority of the letters of admission will be sent out in May.

After a student receives the letter of admission to the School of Law, a non-refundable $125 reservation fee is required.
