Technical and Vocational Certificates

The Postsecondary Non-Degree Technical and Vocational Certificates Program offers 34 certificates accredited by the Puerto Rico Council on Higher Education. The course offerings are geared to develop human resources who will eventually form part of the work force. In addition, through short term specialized technological courses, the program offers those who work in specialized fields the opportunity to further develop and strengthen the skills necessary for success. Day and evening courses are available.

Associates

An associate degree may be completed in approximately two full time years of study. IAUPR offers Associate Degrees in Art (AA), in Applied Science (AAS), in Tourism (AS), in Medical Emergencies (AME), in Nursing (AN), and in Photography (AAS). These degrees are conferred through 24 academic programs. For each one, the curriculum is composed of courses from within the General Education Program (GEP), major course requirements, and electives. Associate degrees require the satisfactory completion of 55 to 79 credit hours.

Bachellors Degree

A Bachelor’s Degree is equivalent to approximately four to five years of full time study at the undergraduate level. IAUPR offers Bachelor degrees in Art (BA), in Business Administration (BBA), in Music (BM), in Science (BS), and in Nursing (BSN). These degrees are conferred in 87 academic programs, some of which are Engineering, Airway Science, and Medical Technology. The curriculum for the Bachelor’s degrees encompasses courses from the General Education Program (GEP), the core and major requirements, and electives. In some cases, the curriculum may include courses from within the major, the minor and prescribed distributive requirements. Bachelor Degrees at IAU require anywhere from 110 to 172 credit hours depending on the particular academic program.

 Professional Certificates

People who hold a bachelor and/or a master’s degree and are interested in specializing in a particular area without having to complete another degree (Master’s or Doctor’s) may opt for a professional certificate. To acquire a post bachelor professional certificate, the candidate must have completed a bachelor or master’s degree. IAUPR offers three professional certificates for post bachelor degrees, and three post master’s professional certificates.

Master's Degree

The Master’s degree is equivalent to the first two years of graduate work. IAUPR offers Masters’ Degrees in Art (MA), in Business Administration (MBA), in Fine Arts (MFA), in International Business (MIB), in Library and Information Science (MLS), in Science (MS), and in Social Work (MSW). These degrees are conferred in 46 academic programs and specializations such as, Education Anesthesia and Psychology. The Master’s curriculum encompasses the core and major requirements, prescribed distributed courses and electives. All Masters’ Degrees offered at IAUPR require the satisfactory completion of 30 to 63 credit hours, passing a comprehensive exam or the completion of the degree, and or the submission of a thesis.

Doctoral Program

The Doctoral Degree represents the highest academic degree conferred. It requires mastery of the discipline and investigation skills. IAUPR offers Doctoral Degrees in Education (Ed.D), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Entrepreneurial Managerial Development, Psychology, and Theological Studies. The Doctorate usually requires five to seven years of coursework after the completion of a Bachelor and Master’s Degrees. The curriculum encompasses the core and specialization requirements, foundation course requirements, prescribed distributed courses and electives. Doctoral degrees require the completion of 36 to 66 credit hours passing a comprehensive exam, and the submission of a doctoral thesis.

 

School of Optometry (Doctoral Degree)

The Doctoral Degree in Optometry requires the satisfactory completion of 163 credits in four years.

 

School of Law (Juris Doctor)

The Juris Doctor Degree requires the satisfactory completion of 92 credits.

 

Adult Higher Education Program (AVANCE)

The Adult Higher Education Program offers students six academic sessions that commence in August, October, January, March, and the summer sessions in June and July. In addition, the program offers special sessions during the regular term for students who wish to advance their studies.

 

Continuing Education Program

The institutional Continuing Education Program offers professionals as well as all interested individuals the opportunity to acquire and update knowledge, and to develop and refine skills. The course offerings respond to the ever-changing socioeconomic and technological advances, as well as the occupational and professional demands in Puerto Rico.

The learning experiences are made available through a nontraditional teaching/learning environment that includes classrooms, laboratories, and computer labs. Courses are also offered via Internet and Videoconference. In addition, courses may be given at the business site if so required.
