Who can apply for Federal Student Aid?
The requirements to receive FSA from the
Department of Education of the United States
are:
• It is for citizens
of United States or legal residents who
have the right to hold a Social Security
number.
• High School, certificate of General
Education Development (GED) or have
passed the ability-to-benefit test or
ATB.
• To be enroll as a
full time student in an associate degree
or four year program.
• If it is a male
from 18 to 25 years of age, he must be
enrolled in the military selective
service.
How do you obtain a federal loan?
1. Fill out the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid o FAFSA.
FAFSA offers different deadlines; make sure
to verify the specific dates.
You can obtain the FAFSA at:
• Web site
www.fafsa.ed.gov
• Guidance
counselor’s office of your high school.
• The university’s financial aid office.
• Local public library.
• Information center of Federal Student
Aid. Call 1-800-4-FED-AID
(1-800-433-3243).
2. Review the Student Aid Report or SAR.
They will send you your SAR after sending
your FAFSA forms within one to four weeks.
This will confirm your information that you
sent in the FAFSA, and will inform you about
your Expected Family Contribution or EFC.
The EFC it is the measurement that your
administrator counselor will use to
determine the federal student aid amount
that you are entitled to receive.
3. Contact the Inter American campus where
you are planning to attend.
Talk to the director of financial aid of the
campus where you are planning to attend. The
director will review your SAR and he will
prepare an offer letter defining the amount
of money that the institution will offer
you.
